How do I measure my torso?

Getting the right fit starts with one simple measurement. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Find a soft measuring tape – the kind used for sewing. If you don’t have one, a piece of string and a ruler will do.

  2. Stand up straight and relax your arms at your sides.

  3. Find your natural waist – this is the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button.

  4. Keep the tape level – make sure it sits flat and even all the way around, not twisted or pulled tight.

  5. Breathe normally – don’t hold your breath or pull in your stomach.

  6. Take the reading – note the number where the tape meets itself. This is your measurement in inches or centimetres.

If you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up for the most comfortable fit.

Please note: The belt may not feel hot to the touch. This is normal, as the FIR rays work beneath the surface to deliver soothing, therapeutic warmth once absorbed by the body. The deep-penetrating FIR heat rays work beneath the skin’s surface to gently warm the kidneys and surrounding blood vessels, to deliver soothing, therapeutic warmth once absorbed by the body. This helps to maintain your core body temperature in cold conditions.

Costing as little as 50 pence per month for regular use, the 12cm wide Super Kidney Warmer offers an energy-efficient way to heat the person, not the room.

During 2019 the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) Forensic Services Team trialled the Feel the Warmth heat belts.

Our Scene Examination staff, who work outwith the office, used the heat belts and noticed that they were able to work outside more comfortably for longer periods of time particularly maintaining heat in their hands and feet. Staff reported generally felt better at the end of a shift with less stress on their body as a result of not feeling cold.

On the strength of this trial SPA Forensic Service purchased heat belts for all scene attending staff.
